Pets of Sussex Law School

Meet some of the gorgeous and lovable pets of staff members at Sussex Law School.

Timba

This is Timba, Jo Wilson’s dog. Timba is 11 years old and is a cross Siberian Husky/Alaskan Malamute. At his heaviest he was 54kg and (in his younger days) he could put his paws up on my shoulders! Timba’s favourite place to go is the beach, where he likes to chase the waves and dig in the sand.

Jo is a Lecturer in Commercial Law and has been at Sussex for nine years. She teaches Contract Law 1 which is a core first year Autumn term module, so you will all meet her very soon!

Bo

This is Bo (short for Dumbo…), Mel’s dog. Bo hates rain and mud.

Mel’s been at Sussex Law School for 18 months and works as a course coordinator for second year Law students. She is also the professional services coordinator for all UG Law exams.  Mel is studying a MSc in criminology and criminal justice on a part time basis and is halfway through (phew!).

Charlie

Here’s Charlie doing what he does best; sleeping! Charlie is Lucy Welsh’s dog. Charlie is a 9 year old Labrador/Staffordshire terrier cross who we adopted from RSPCA about two years ago. Since we adopted him, Charlie has been on lots of adventures with us and travelled to Wales, Dorset, Kent, and Warwickshire. He can tell when we are planning a road trip and gets very excited when he realises he is coming with us. As an older dog, Charlie spends much of his time sleeping, so this photo seemed like a good representation of his life!

Lucy is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Sussex Law School. She teaches criminal law and related subjects at SLS, such as the final year optional module the law of evidence and the criminal process. She also runs the Criminal Justice Law Clinic, which you can take as part of the final year Clinical Legal Education module. Outside of work, Lucy likes to go to dance classes and volunteer for the Wave Project, a charity which provides surfing courses for young people. I look forward to meeting you and am sure you’ll enjoy your time at Sussex!

Ozzy

Here’s Ozzie Boswell, Mark Walter’s cavapoo.

Ozzie‘s favourite past times include: barking at cats (a lot), playing with his favourite toy (a beaver), and having copious amounts of cuddles with his two doggy daddies…

Nala

Meet Nala, Amir Paz-Fuchs’ dog. Nala is both a lockdown and rescue dog, which came to us from Macedonia.

She has a bit of beagle in her (it seems) as the sniff of a squirrel, fox or rabbit used to get her in a frenzy. But now she’s much more relaxed, and seems to insist on cuddles more than a chase.

George

Meet George and Nuno Ferreira. This is George, a lovely eight-year-old Jack Russell. He joined us right before Christmas 2021 and has conquered the hearts of everyone at home from minute one.

He’s not that keen on other dogs or squirrels, but loves his long naps, walks outside and, of course, his food!

And I’m Nuno Ferreira: I teach and do research in the broad field of human rights, especially refugees’, children’s and LGBTQI+ rights. I’m looking forward to teaching you in Constitutional Foundations of the European Union!

Barry Manilow

Meet Barry Manilow, Fiona Clement’s cat.

Barry Manilow came to live with Fiona 14 years ago, when he was an 8 week old kitten. His Mum was rescued when she was heavily pregnant, and Barry was born into the care of Cats Protection.

He used to be a hunter in his youth, but these days he much prefers a slower pace of life. One of his superpowers is definitely sleeping!

I’m the convenor for the MA Law programme and I also convene Equity and Trusts 1. I have a season ticket for BHAFC and I’m hoping for a top five finish this year!

Nula

Meet Nula, Jeanette Ashton’s dog, cooling off on Hove beach. You might notice she only has one eye, but she can still spot a cat, or a dropped bit of food, from a mile away!

You might be lucky enough to meet Nula on an online session in Equity 2.

Emi

Meet Emi, Steph Berry’s and Edward Guntrip’s dog. This is Emi post-swim in Seaford.
